The Air Cadet Organization (ACO) is a hierarchical organization. Headquarters Air Cadets (HQAC) is based at RAFC Cranwell in Lincolnshire and administers the entire ACO.
  • The ACO's function is split between the Air Training Corps (ATC), whose units are located in towns and villages throughout the UK, and the RAF sections of the Combined Cadet Force (CCF(RAF)) at grant-aided and public schools.
  • The ATC is subdivided into 6 geographical regions. We come under the control of Scotland & Northern Ireland (S&NI) Region, headquartered in Edinburgh.
  • S&NI Region is further divided into 6 geographical Wings and each Wing controls a number of squadrons and detached flights.
North East
of Scotland with Aberdeen wing units marked. Aberdeen Wing, or (to give it its proper title), Aberdeen and North East Scotland Wing is responsible for the units in the North East of Scotland. Our Area of responsibility stretches from Stonehaven and Inverbervie in the south up to the Moray coast, across to Fraserburgh on the very tip of North East Scotland and to Huntly in the heart of Whisky country to the west.

Altogether, we control 14 units at the moment with around 440 cadets in total

Wing Headquarters. Click on this image for a larger photo.Until a few years ago, the Wing's headquarters was located at the Prince Charles Barracks in Aberdeen, but the cuts in the Territorial Army saw PCB scheduled for sale.

Aberdeen Wing was moved to a building within the Gordon Barracks at the Bridge of Don (pictured right) and from there runs all of the units under its control.

The barracks provide a good range of facilities and resources which the Wing can make use of. Its large drill square / car park provides an excellent venue for ceremonial events and the many buildings round it allow us to support and cater for the large amount of people we need to look after at such events. Further back, we have use of the Army Cadet Force's billet and training centre and the adjacent sports fields are the venue for the Wing rugby and soccer trials.

Wing Headquarters is manned from 0900 - 1700, Monday to Thursday and from 0900 - 1630 on Fridays. There is an answering machine service outside these hours.
